Privacy policy
What GPX Edit Pro processes on your device, what goes over the network (calculations, sharing, contact form, hosting), and your rights.
In short
Your tracks are edited in your browser: your files are not sent to a server to be read, edited or exported. Some features go over the network — route, elevation or weather calculations, sharing, the contact form — and this page says which ones, what they send and to whom. GPX Edit Pro uses no account, no cookies, no advertising and no audience measurement.
1. Controller
The gpx-edit-pro.ovh website is published in a personal capacity by Damien ANNE. Contact:
2. What stays on your device
Reading GPX, FIT, TCX and KML files, editing, distance and elevation calculations, simplification and creating exports all happen in your browser.
So that you can find your work again, the editor stores in the browser's storage (IndexedDB and localStorage): your tracks, waypoints and current settings, your weather map spots and conditions, the wind unit, and a cache of recent forecasts. This data stays until you delete it: 🧹 Delete all in the editor, deleting a spot, or clearing the site's data in your browser. A private window keeps nothing once it is closed. "My workspace" lets you download a copy to a file. The photos you import are neither sent nor kept.
This storage is strictly necessary for the service you request; it does not require prior consent (Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act, transposing Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive).
3. What goes over the network
| Situation | What is sent | To whom | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Opening the editor, displaying maps, route calculation, place search, points of interest, elevation, weather | The coordinates needed for the calculation; as with any web request, your IP address | The services listed in §8 (OpenStreetMap, BRouter, OSRM, Nominatim, Overpass, Open-Meteo, basemap providers, Cloudflare cdnjs, jsDelivr, Google Fonts) | According to each service's policy |
| 🔗 Share, or the PDF map's QR code (box ticked) | The loaded tracks and waypoints | A JSON file on the site's server, at OVHcloud, readable by anyone who has the link | Until you ask for it to be deleted |
| "Contact us" form | Your name, your email address, the subject and the message | Sent by email to the controller, only to reply to you | For the duration of the exchange; the sender's IP address is kept for about an hour to fight spam |
| Any visit to the site | IP address, date and time, page requested | Technical logs of the host, OVHcloud | One year at most |
| Webcams, external links | Nothing, as long as you don't click | The webcam's or link's website, once opened | According to that website |
A shared track can reveal a usual starting point, such as your home. Check what you share; the share window summarises it before creating the link.
4. Why, and on what legal basis
- Calculations, sharing, replies to your messages: to provide what you ask for (performance of your request).
- Host logs, spam limitation: security and proper operation of the site (legitimate interest).
No data is sold, or used for advertising or profiling.
5. Your rights
You can ask for access to your data, its correction or its deletion, in particular the deletion of a shared track (give the link), and object to processing, by writing to the address in §1. For the host's logs, OVHcloud can also be contacted directly. You can lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority, or with the authority of your country of residence.
6. Hosting and security
The site is hosted by OVHcloud (SAS, 2 rue Kellermann, 59100 Roubaix, France). Exchanges are encrypted with HTTPS. Sharing relies on JSON files, with no database and no user account.
7. Intellectual property and liability
The code, interface, design and texts of gpx-edit-pro.ovh belong to GPX Edit Pro (Damien ANNE), unless stated otherwise; any reproduction or commercial use, even partial, requires written permission. The open-source libraries used (Leaflet, Three.js, jsPDF, JSZip…) remain under their own licences.
Elevations, surfaces, distances, durations, weather and tide forecasts, routes: this information comes from third-party sources (OpenStreetMap, IGN, Copernicus, Open-Meteo) and is provided for guidance only. The decision to set off, in the mountains as on the water, remains yours; GPX Edit Pro cannot be held liable for the consequences of its use.
8. Technical details
Architecture. HTML, CSS and JavaScript run in your browser, with no framework and no application server. The presentation pages, the guides and the manual serve their fonts from the site's own domain. The editor loads some libraries (Leaflet, JSZip, PMTiles) from cdnjs (Cloudflare) and jsDelivr, and its fonts from Google Fonts: as with any web request, these services receive your IP address.
External services. OpenStreetMap and basemap providers; BRouter and OSRM for routes; Nominatim for search and reverse geocoding; Overpass API for some points of interest; Open-Meteo for forecasts and the weather map; IGN RGE ALTI and Copernicus GLO-90 terrain data for elevation; vector tiles for surfaces.
